An alliance built to organize small-business power.
Capitol Business Alliance is a nonpartisan California organization connecting business owners with advocacy, policymakers, relationships, and real participation.
Capitol Business Alliance organizes small-business power by connecting business owners with advocacy, policymakers, information, relationships, and opportunities to participate directly in shaping California's business climate.
A gap in California's business landscape.
Capitol Business Alliance was founded to fill a gap that traditional chambers and trade associations have left open for too long. Small-business owners across California work hard, create jobs, and anchor their communities — yet too often they have no real seat at the table where the rules that govern them get written.
The Alliance is the result of small business owners and veteran Capitol advocates joining forces at the behest of a minority of disillusioned California lawmakers when it was brought to our attention that once-powerful voices had declined both in their advocacy efforts and their organizational structure since the COVID-19 pandemic, including the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) and the California Small Business Association (CSBA). Concerns have also been brought to our attention that, whatever the intention, the California Chamber of Commerce seems to have lost a lot of credibility as well in recent years and many business owners and local chambers feel their pleas fall on deaf ears.
After consulting with other Capitol insiders, former small business lobbyists, and business owners throughout California, we founded the Alliance as the new hub for small businesses to take their power back and have a seat at the table with the decision-makers, policy experts, and influencers who craft the everyday laws impacting entrepreneurs and hardworking innovators from Californina's own communities. It's time for a shakeup in small business politics.
Six principles that shape everything we do.
Access
Business owners should be closer to the decisions affecting them.
Participation
Businesses should help shape policy, not merely hear about it afterward.
Transparency
Members should know what advocacy is being done in their name.
Storytelling
Real business experiences should inform policy.
Relationships
Political and economic power depend on strong networks.
Nonpartisan Advocacy
Work across political lines on issues affecting California businesses.
This is not just another chamber membership.
